The village prioritises, we help out
Every project in Kemoto is proposed, discussed and prioritised by the residents themselves through open, democratic processes. Here is the plan we have made together, and what we have already achieved.

Clean drinking water for the whole village
In the winter of 2026 we carried out a major upgrade of the water system: a new well, twin pumps, 2,100 W of solar power and one kilometre of new pipes dug down by hand. What remains is 1.6 km of pipe and a backup generator.

Finishing the local health centre
Construction stopped in 2024 when the money ran out, and today only the foundation is in place. We want to complete the building with its own treatment room and medicine storage.
Then the doctor, who visits the village monthly, can examine patients, hand out medicine and deliver babies in safe, professional surroundings.

Electricity and 35 PCs for the school
We want to install electrical wiring at the school and collect 35 PCs for a dedicated computer room. This gives the children of Kemoto a unique opportunity to learn digital skills and get a modern education.
Do you or your workplace have usable laptops to spare? Send us an email.

Improving the teachers' quarters
The teachers commute from elsewhere and live in worn-down shared housing on weekdays. We want to renovate the houses and make use of the electricity that has now reached the walls, with one light and one power socket in every room.
Better living conditions help the school keep qualified teachers, and that benefits every child in Kemoto.

Securing the village's food source
Rice is Kemoto's most important food source, but in the rainy season salt water from the river threatens the harvest. A test dyke has proven successful.
Now we want to hire a bulldozer and finish the dyke around the rest of the fields, securing food production for good. In addition, the school's vegetable garden will be fenced in against animals.
«Since everything is based on volunteer work and local cooperation, we get an incredible amount done for every single krone.»
The voyage of «Odin»
On 20 October 2025, Seil med Larsen set course from Norway with the sailboat Odin, fully loaded with donated gifts. On 13 January 2026 the anchor dropped off Kemoto, and everything arrived safely: two loads of clothes, school supplies, sports equipment and a complete water pump system, sailed there emission-free by wind.
Clothes and shoes
Two full loads of clothes, shoes and school bags for all ages, from infants to adults. Distributed at the alkalo's, the village chief's, compound so that everyone in Kemoto received their share.
School supplies
- 1,000 exercise books
- 500 pencils
- 320 erasers
- 160 pencil sharpeners
Play and sports
- 17 handballs, plus footballs, volleyballs and basketballs
- 25 cones and an inflatable goal
- 4 full bags of team kits
Water pump system
A 1,500 W Pedrollo solar pump with control system and cables. The solar panels took the last leg by cargo boat, with the freight covered privately.
A big thank you to Kari Elin Sem, Knut Einar Sem, Eivind Augestad Larsen and Cecilie Kirkevold for the clothing loads, and to Greveskogen upper secondary school and Tønsberg gymnastics and handball clubs for the sports equipment. The school supplies were bought with donated funds, documented in our open books.
Everything handed out, and a thank you in return
The school supplies and sports equipment were handed over to the school, which distributed them to the pupils and set aside a small store for the future. The clothes were handed out at the alkalo's compound, to the whole village.
As a thank you, the women of Kemoto held their own ceremony for the gifts, wishing everyone who contributed a good and long life. You can watch their greeting here.
